Finding the Best Seed Starter
Spring time means seed starting time and this year I decided to try a homegrown comparison test of three different types of seed starters.
The first test is in a self watering seed starter with Jiffy seed starting mix. These starters have a capliary mat that waters from the bottom up, encouraging root growth. I’ve had great luck starting seeds in them in the past but my lack of patience in hardening off the seedling always proved to be their demise.
The second type of seed starter is peat pods. These are great because you do not have to disturb the roots (removing them from a container) before planting in the ground.

The third type of starter Grodan blocks, are new to me. They are made from rock and recycled materials and can also be planted directly into the ground without disturbing the roots.

Each starter has five different types of pepper seeds:
- Italian Marconi Golden
- Hungarian Yellow Wax
- Early Jalapeno
- California Wonder Orange
- California Wonder Green
I will update as soon as I see the first sprouts!
